Our Mission
The Philipstown Greenway Committee promotes and facilitates access to the Hudson River Valley Greenway Trail System in all its forms: Woodland Trails, Bicycle Routes and the Hudson River Water Trail. Planful access to the outdoors creates links betweens communities along the river and encourages non-motorized travel to sites of historic inerest, awesome physical beauty and recreational value. We are guided by the Hudson River Valley Greenway Trail Vision Plan created by the New York State Legislature in 1991.
Our Committee is currently working to create a separated, continous multi-use trail along Route 9D in Philipstown, which is already designated as a Scenic Byway by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The trail would extend from Breakneck Ridge in the north to the Bear Mountain Bridge in the south.
In 2008, The Philipstown Greenway Committee will sponsor a triathlon with Scenic Hudson, under the aegis of the Hudson River Valley Greenway Ramble, whose proposed route (see Info Sheet for this year's route) makes extensive use of all three componenets of the Greenway Trail in Phlipstown.
The Philipstown Greenway Committee promotes the completion of each of the three types of Greenway Trails across the north-south extent of Philipstown, enabling Putnam County to become the first county to create an uninterrupted cross-county Greenway Trail link within the thirteen-county Hudson River Valley Greenway Trail system.
